The Hague is home to our international head office; here are our top five reasons why the Aerona team believe it is such a wonderful city in which to live and work.
City or beach? No need to choose, since, in The Hague, you are never far from the sea (it is the only large Dutch city by the sea). The 11-kilometre beach and coastline provide an abundance of fresh sea air, breath-taking views of the horizon and picture-postcard sunsets. Easy to reach on a tram or on a bicycle, followed by a nice walk along the Pier or our favourite is a cycle through the dunes to clear the mind and get inspired.
Extremely easy to get around. The Hague is an easily navigable city and we love the fact that it is simple to walk and, since this is the Netherlands, even easier to cycle across the city. During the freezing winter months with those icy cold winds, it is also great to hop on a tram and stare out of the window and daydream.
Nature. One of our best-kept secrets is that we have our own ‘central park’ in the middle of our city. We love to walk between the beautiful old trees of the Haagse Bos (Hague Forest) and it also has some great routes to run or cycle – handy to work off the excesses of the free lunch at the Aerona office.
City of Culture. It is not just about the outside since the Hague is also a city full of culture. We love to view the Rembrandt, Vermeer and Mondrian at the Mauritshuis and the Gemeentemuseum (Municipal Museum). The Aerona team also love to get inspired by viewing the ‘impossible’ at Museum Escher in het Paleis. We also love the STET English Theatre, which is the only theatre in the Netherlands with an English-only programme (please do support them).
History. Known to have the most historic sites per square metre in the Netherlands, the Hague has deep history allowing it to become a city of international character and importance. We love to stroll through the courtyard of the Binnenhof (Inner Court), walk along Molenstraat (one of The Hague’s oldest streets) and into the Paleistuin (Palace Garden) behind the Noordeinde Palace – a wonderful way to enjoy a lunch break with the Aerona team! A great short history of the Hague can be found on the website of the Municipality.
OK, the Aerona team may be a little biased, but we live here and love the Hague! What are your favourite things to do in the Hague?
